Care to Learn
If you are a young parent aged 16 – 19 at the beginning of your course, you may be able to apply to the Care to Learn Scheme to help with your childcare costs. Visit the Care to Learn Scheme website to learn more about Childcare funding or call 0800 121 8989 for information on how to apply online.

Childcare Bursary
If you are a parent aged 20 or over at the beginning of your course, you may be eligible for help with childcare costs on the days when you attend college.
If your child(ren) are entitled to 2 year or 3-year-old free childcare from the government, those hours MUST be used for your college lessons first before bursary funds are used.
Childcare providers must be OFSTED registered and the maximum funding limit is £225 per 10-session week per child per Academic Year or £54 per day. A maximum of 2 children per student can be supported.
To be eligible for help with childcare, one of the following must apply:
- In receipt of Income Support
- In receipt of Job Seekers Allowance
- In receipt of Employment Support Allowance
- Supported under part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act, and legally resident in the UK for 6 months
- In receipt of Guarantee element of the State Pension
- Have a household income of £25,000 gross annual income
- Can demonstrate that they are currently facing financial hardship
- In receipt of Universal Credit with gross annual earnings less than £25,000
If you believe you meet one or more of the above criteria and you would like to apply for help with your childcare costs whilst you attend lessons in college, please email studentsupportfund@derby-college.ac.uk and ask for a childcare application form. You will also need to submit evidence of one or more of the above criteria, the details of your OFSTED registered childcare provider and a copy of your child(ren)’s birth certificate(s).
