Safer Recruitment

Keeping Children Safe in Education

Derby College Group has a duty to protect children and vulnerable groups from harm or abuse and we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Exceptions Order to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 applies to all posts within Derby College Group, including volunteer posts. All applicants are, therefore, required to provide details of all previous convictions and cautions, including those that are spent. As well as asking you to disclose your cautions and convictions, we will request the same information from the Disclosure and Barring Service (“DBS”) as part of our checks prior to your appointment being confirmed. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us – this will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences.

Derby College Group undertakes not to discriminate unfairly against any subject of a criminal record check on the basis of a conviction or other information revealed – please see our Statement on the Recruitment of Ex Offenders.
