Eighteen-year-old Milly Johnson is so glad she took the T Level in Education and Early Years at Derby College Group’s Broomfield Hall.

Milly is now off to Derby University in September to study childcare after completing her two-year T Level course with a distinction.

She said: “I didn’t really want to be a teacher when I was younger, but I did some babysitting and found I really enjoyed it.

I heard about T Levels when I was in Year 10 at school so after GCSEs, I thought I’d try them and see if they were for me.

“I like to live in the moment, so the practical work experience side of T Level really suited me. I really enjoyed my time at Broomfield and I made some good friends there.”

Milly did the placement element of her T Level at Alvaston Infant and Nursery School and she loved her work experience so much that she is going to carry on working in the nursery part-time while on her degree course.

She added: “I’ll spend three days a week at university and two days at school, so I’ll be earning while I study.

“I’m a nurturing person so childcare is a great choice of career for me. I love being around the children and seeing them learn.

“We have learning journeys in the school so we get to see how much they progress and learn through their time there. In my role I get to lead some small sessions and read the children stories.”
