Everything aligning perfectly on Jake’s Esports journey with DCG
Help and support from his teachers has enabled ‘everything to align perfectly’ for Derby College Group Esports student Jake Braithwaite.
Jake, 18, is in the first year of the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Esports and sees his future in the esports and gaming industry.
He said: “When I first applied to Derby College there was a course in games development but not specifically in esports.
“Fortunately, I was accepted onto the Esports Level 2 qualification during its first year and was happy with my results that came after some hard work.
“Unfortunately, I struggled to achieve my GCSE in English and had thought I’d reached the end of my journey. But thanks to some great support I was able to take an alternative qualification in Media.
“The media course helped me develop yet more relevant skills which I could later apply to my Level 3 qualification in esports.”
Jake loves everything about his course, and is particularly grateful to his teachers, Ami, Josh and Neema.
He added: “They’ve communicated with me regularly and given me the opportunity to improve my skills. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.
“They’re so encouraging. Everyone on my course loves gaming and our teachers share our enthusiasm.
“I feel incredibly lucky. I couldn’t be happier with where I am and what I’m achieving. Everything has aligned perfectly.”
After finishing his level 3, Jake would like to progress to the College of Esports in London where previous DCG students are currently on degree courses.
He added: “Some of the esports students who did my course two years ago are there and they really like it.
“It looks great. I’d like to be a professional esports player, but I don’t think I’m quite skilled enough, so I’ll probably do something involving graphic design.
