Hadi achieves GCSEs he needs to study A-level science subjects

Studying in a new learning environment in a new country was quite a challenge at first for Derby College Group GCSE Plus student Hadi Sabith.

Hadi, aged 17, only arrived in the UK from India in June 2023 and shortly after enrolled at Joseph Wright Centre to take GCSEs in Business, Maths, English and Combined Sciences.

He said: “It was hard to adjust at first. My English wasn’t that good then. It’s a lot better now and I was very pleased to get a Grade 5 in my English exam.

“My teachers at JWC really helped me improve my English and I got good grades in my other GCSE subjects too.”

In addition to his English pass, Hadi left college with a Grade 6 in Business, a Grade 7 in Maths and a Grade 9/8 in Combined Sciences.

He has since applied to Landau Forte Sixth Form College in Derby to do A-levels in Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

He added: “I’ve always enjoyed science subjects the most. I’m not sure yet what I’d like to do later on but possibly something in medical sciences.

“My dad is a radiographer in the NHS. I also haven’t ruled out a career in engineering.”

My teachers at JWC really helped me improve my English and I got good grades in my other GCSE subjects too.
