Callum's horticultural career takes root
A loving grandfather’s gift of an allotment sowed the seeds of a growing career which is being nurtured by Derby College.
Calum Reeves was just eight when his grandad passed away and he inherited the plot they had spent hours together tending.
Now aged 18, Callum has a part-time job as a fruit and vegetable gardener at the National Trust-owned Clumber Park Estate, while working towards his Level 3 Diploma in Horticultural Studies at Broomfield Hall.
Callum has already gained a distinction at Level 2, and his achievements are all the more remarkable given he is dyslexic and left school with no GCSEs.
Without the help of the college I wouldn’t have got this nice job. I would have had no chance if the staff hadn’t been there to help me get my CV together.
