TA apprenticeship with DCG was the right route for Aaishah
Taking a teaching assistant apprenticeship with Derby College Group, has set TA Aaishah Teladia on the right career path.
Aaishah, who now works as a level 3 TA in Birmingham, originally took the level 2 introductory course at the Roundhouse before securing an apprentice role at a Derby infants school.
She said: “I was living in Derby and volunteering at the local mosque in the evenings and discovered that I really enjoyed the teaching element of being with the children. I decided to look into TA courses so enrolled at Derby College, my nearest College, where I took the level 2 course part-time initially.
“For my apprenticeship I worked with key stage 1 children at St James Infant School in Derby, which I enjoyed. I also liked coming to The Roundhouse on day release and having chance to put what we’d learned in the classroom at college into practice at school.
“I was home schooled and did a lot of my learning online so I found it good to be in a classroom environment. Ours was a nice group and our lecturer was lovely. She was always there for us.”
Aaishah was offered a TA job in Derby at the end of her apprenticeship placement but had to turn it down as she was getting married and moving to Birmingham.
After initially taking a level 2 job near her new home, she has since secured a level 3 role at a school in Perry Bar, again working with young children aged five to seven.
She added: “I like my new role. It comes with a lot more responsibility. I love working with the children, in groups and one-to-one, helping them learn and get where they want to be. I’d definitely recommend the TA courses at Derby College. My TA apprenticeship helped to set me on the right career path.”
