About Us

Welcome to the Derby College Equestrian Centre website. We are very excited about the developments to our riding centre and have grown considerably in what we can offer to the equestrian industry. As well as excellent HE and FE training for full and part time courses, we also run competitions, training from industry professionals, short courses, riding lessons and adult riding camps. We also have an increasing number of Apprentices who pursue a work-based qualification with us.

A very busy year

At Derby College Equestrian Centre, we strive on having a busy year as we are then satisfied that we have given all our learners a great educational opportunity. Our curriculum is full of content with plenty of guest speakers and visits and after college and at the weekends there is a lot of commercial activity which the students can join in.

Competitions

Throughout the year, we run a variety of fun and friendly competitions (dates can be found on the ‘What’s On’ page). Look out for the monthly unaffiliated competitions in dressage and show-jumping. We also run arena eventing and one-day events.

Facilities

65m x 30m Indoor Arena

Our light and airy indoor arena is equipped with a bank of mirrors along the top end and an Andrews Bowen Pro-Wax surface, giving you a top-class training area. The arena has a PA system, bank of speakers and power to the arena ideal for dressage riders wanting to ride to music. It is available to hire with or without our training show-jumps.

Price per hour: £35 and £5 per extra horse – Clinic/PC rate available.

40m x 40m All Weather Floodlit Outdoor School

The sand and rubber surface on the outdoor school is in excellent condition and provides a good year-round riding surface with no boggy patches or puddles. The square shape of the arena makes it ideal for building show-jumping courses. It is available to hire with or without our training show-jumps.

Price per hour: £25 and £5 per extra horse – Clinic/PC rate available.

XC Schooling Loop

This 1km long wood chip track, with all-weather take-offs and landings gives the rider all-year access to XC schooling. Along the track, you will find a good range of XC jumps, ditches, sunken road, water, and banks.

Jump height: 1ft.9 – 2ft.6

The loop is a safe environment ideal for pony club / riding club training and introducing young people / green horses to cross country.

Price per rider per horse: £20 – Clinic/PC rate available.

XC Schooling Field

This comprises of a good variety of professionally built XC fences ranging from 1ft.6 to 2ft.9 with 2 ditches, a water complex, and a bank with many options on and off it.

The field provides a safe, enclosed environment, ideal for pony club / riding club training and introducing young people / green horses to cross country.

It is possible for clubs to hire the XC Schooling Field to run a one-day event.

Price for BHS / Pony Club Members: £10

Horse Weighbridge

A safe, inviting platform on which to weigh your horse. Ideal for weight management, worming programmes and medicine dosage.

Estate Ride

Open from Easter to September, we have a 5km off-road ride around the beautiful Broomfield estate, located just outside Morley, north of Derby. The route goes around the field headlands and farm tracks.

Price per rider: £10

Classrooms

The classrooms at the Derby College Equestrian Centre offer you a well-resourced, warm, and clean environment to carry out theory sessions or act as a club room. They are equipped with ceiling mounted projectors.

Kitchen Area

The kitchen facilities are ideal for snack preparation and benefit from a fridge, dishwasher, sink, large work surface, microwave, and storage cupboards.

Stabling

We have a full range of 12ft x 12ft Monarch loose boxes with a choice of straw or shaved bedding all set in large barns with plenty of space for the horses to move around.

To keep our facilities as safe and professional as possible, it is mandatory that all hirers of any facility agree to the terms and conditions of its use and sign a Derby College Disclaimer on arrival on the site. Please check-in with the member of staff on duty who will help you to do this.
