Derby College receives Silver Accreditation from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society

Derby College Group is delighted to announce that we have achieved Silver Accreditation for Broomfield Hall for being a hedgehog-friendly campus.

Achieving a silver award means a great deal to our college community as it reflects our ever-growing commitment to becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Our land-based team at Broomfield Hall has excelled once again in gaining this award and their work continues to raise awareness of the decline of hedgehogs and the challenges they face, as well as helping to create safe spaces on campus for them to thrive.

Congratulations, this award certifies that Derby College Group has been awarded Silver Award Creditation.

Stacey Higgs, Curriculum Manager said of the Award: “It’s been fantastic to be a part of an excellent initiative once again, supporting wildlife and further engaging in our sustainable practices.

“And, not forgetting our National first-place achievement earlier in the year for the fantastic team efforts Litter Picking across our campus.

“The team should be extremely proud of themselves, and thank you to Bethany Holmes, Sustainability Project Manager & Biodiversity Project Coordinator at SOS-UK, for all your assistance with our centre this year.”

Broomfield Hall is committed making the campus hedgehog-friendly for this species to thrive in our vicinity and raising awareness for students from the city.

The team has improved sustainability, through tasks such as completing surveys, litter picking and installing hedgehog houses.

Hedgehog Friendly Campus is a UK-wide award scheme funded by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

Teams of staff and students work to apply hedgehog-friendly actions on and around their University, College or school.

The BHPS is a registered UK Charity dedicated to helping & protecting hedgehogs native to the UK (Erinaceus europaeus).
