With a diverse range of activities and opportunities, Freshers’ Week helped students feel welcomed, supported, and ready for an exciting academic year ahead.
The strong involvement of local businesses and college departments highlighted Derby College’s commitment to fostering connections that enhance both the student experience and the long-term success of their experience at the College.
There was incredible support from many organisations, all dedicated to enhancing the student experience.
Employers like Rolls-Royce, alongside public services such as the Army and the Police, were on hand to provide insight into career paths and community engagement opportunities.
The event also saw strong representation from Deaf Access and Learning Support, ensuring inclusivity for all students.

Jacob Blackshields (16) from Belper attended the Freshers’ event at Broomfield Hall and found it really useful.
Jacob, who is on the Public Services Course commented: “It was really great to get so much information in one place and this will really help me being part of the College.
“And it was good to see so much support available. And I am really looking forward to getting involved in college life.”
Jacob is considering what he wants his future career to be and is potentially looking at joining the armed police or the military.
Esme Baker (16) is studying Sports Science at Broomfield College and said of the Freshers’ event: “It was really good getting a better understanding of the college and everyone was so helpful.
“I found out that there are so different many different groups I can join and I’m really excited about being part of the College.”
Lacey Wharton, who is studying A-levels in Criminology, Business Studies and Sociology commented: “It has been such a great event and I have learnt so much about the College.
“I really looking forward to studying here, as it really the best in the area.”
Dylan Nijjar (16) is looking forward to studying Criminology, Sociology and Psychology A-levels at the Joseph Wright Centre.
He said of the event: “It really has been fun, everyone has been so friendly.
“I have loved meeting the teachers and finding out more about the all the things I can be involved in at the College.”
