Derby made its case to Rail Minister Wendy Morton for bringing the GBR headquarter to the city and chose The Roundhouse as the location for her to meet key business and political leaders as well as students and apprentices.
The city is one of six locations in the running for the HQ relocation which is being decided by a public vote as well as other considerations such as how GBR in Derby would help the levelling up agenda, how accessible the city is, railway heritage and links to the network and how much Derby would represent value or money.
DCG’s CEO Mandie Stravino OBE was part of the delegation which welcomed the Rail Minister to the city.
She said: “The Roundhouse was the perfect venue for this meeting as it reflects the city’s heritage as a rail city and clearly demonstrates our track record and commitment to working in partnership with a wide range of industry employers to train and develop the skilled workforce they require both now and in the future.
“As a College, we have been integral in Derby’s bid for bringing GBR to the city as we recognise the positive impact of creating high quality job opportunities.
“We all felt that the visit went extremely well and hope that the outcome will be in Derby’s favour.”
