Without any management hedgerows can become neglected and lose their value. Hedgerows have declined in Britain and so have the animals that rely on them. Broomfield’s learners are playing their part to ensure this doesn’t happen on the College Estate.
Countryside students hedgelaying on Broomfield Hall estate
Hedgelaying is the ancient art of cutting hedgerows for regrowth. Countryside and Agriculture students have been learning this technique cutting broad leaved species and 'laying' them forming a stock proof barrier. This sustainable form of fencing helps the hedge to regrow and provides an important habitat for Broomfields wildlife.
