The free event is a celebration of the students’ dedication and is an opportunity for attendees to witness the combination of their innovation, research, and education.
The showcase will take place on Tuesday October 24th 5pm to 6.30pm at the Joseph Wright Centre (JWC) in Derby City Centre.
Students at the Joseph Wright Centre have been engaging in a qualification alongside their A levels using their creative, analytical and organisational powers to devise and develop their own independent projects involving the production of artefacts and delivery of events in a variety of academic and creative fields.
The EPQ has been running since January and has taken meticulous planning and preparation resulting in the presentations that will be on display at our showcase.
We are delighted to welcome everyone to engage with the students and the exciting journey they have been on for the last 10 months.
Topics range from children’s football events, a sculpture of the colosseum to reports on ghosts, invasive species and public faith in the police.
There are over 80 different topics to engage with, demonstrating the creativity and drive of students from JWC.
Along the way, the students have picked up new skills, collaborated successfully with supervisors and battled committedly towards deadlines.
Guests will be able to wander freely, whilst students introduce and discuss their projects.
Commenting on the showcase, Sally Archer, Curriculum Manager (English, Arts and Language) said:
“The students have shown so much passion, confidence and enthusiasm whilst putting their projects together.
“And it is clear, they are very interested in their topics they have chosen, and that each project has been thoroughly well-researched.
“The showcase really demonstrates the educational benefits of going above and beyond the curriculum, as well as the key life skills, the students will have gained from undertaking the qualification, which will serve them well in the future.”
The extended project qualification sits in high regard with Universities, as it fosters critical thinking and independent learning skills.
Students also gain valuable experience and extra points towards getting into University.
