Course Information for Students

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with team Leaders and Warehouse Supervisors, Stock Control Administrators, Incoming Delivery Drivers, Outgoing Delivery Drivers, Customers making collections, Data Management Assistants, Sales and Marketing representatives, Planners and Project Managers, Buyers and Procurement Managers. A Warehouse Operative will be supervised by a Team Leader, Warehouse Supervisor or Shift Manager.

An employee in this occupation will be responsible for the safe handling of goods and the accuracy of putting stock away in the correct locations and the accuracy of picking products in accordance with the orders received. This may include the packing of goods and ensuring product is not damaged. In a small operation they may be responsible for the whole process of incoming goods, storage and outgoing orders. They may be required to operate different forms of mechanical handling equipment such as fork lift trucks, cranes, pallet trucks and reach trucks. They should operate all equipment in a safe manner and be aware of any specific regulations which may apply to the products handled.

Maths and English Grade 3 or a D.

You will learn how to maintain a safe working environment, receive goods and inspect them to ensure the correct quantities and quality, move and store goods safely, ensure correct inspection of goods for dispatch, ensure that goods are handled and stored in compliance with the relevant safety and regulatory standards, record relevant information on organisational warehouse management system in a timely manner, stock replenishment and ensure that reduction, re-use, return and recycle principles of packaging are applied in relation to both goods being prepared for despatch and goods received in line with organisational procedures.

This apprenticeship is delivered in the workplace.

Wearing of required PPE.  Use of a laptop/computer would be beneficial. 

You will be observed in the workplace by your assessor, you will complete Q&A and complete job write ups to demonstrate competency in your role. Your end point assessment will consist of an observation in the workplace and an interview based on your portfolio of work. 

Improvement Technician Level 3 (where your job role permits).

Commitment to ensuring that the apprentice has a training plan in place to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required of the standard.  Attendance to 12 weekly progress reviews and supporting target setting to ensure progress and development.

Supply Chain Warehouse Operative Level 2

The apprentice will build a portfolio of evidence which will include, job reports, witness testimonies, observations and Q&A.  The apprentice will have an end point assessment where they will be observed in the workplace and have an interview based on the portfolio of evidence.

Depending on their job role, they could progress onto Improvement practitioner Level 3
