Pathway to Further Learning
The Pathway to Further Learning programme is tailored for young people aged 16+ with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who aspire to continue their education in a supportive and inclusive environment. This course helps students build foundational skills, confidence and readiness to progress to higher-level education.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for post-16 students who:
- Have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Wish to improve their academic skills for further education.
- Want to benefit from structured, individualised support to achieve their learning goals.
Entry Requirements
- Aged 16–25 with an EHCP
- Motivation to continue learning in a supportive environment
- Commitment to attending and participating in learning activities
What will you learn?
Academic Development:
- Focus on Functional English, Maths and ICT at Entry Level to Level 1.
- Study skills to prepare for future courses, such as time management and organisation.
Personalised Learning Plans:
- Tailored programmes to address individual learning needs and goals.
Vocational and Practical Skills:
- Introduction to vocational subjects or taster courses to explore interests.
Confidence and Self-Esteem Building:
- Activities and support to boost self-assurance in learning environments.
Transition Support:
- Guidance on progressing to further education, apprenticeships or vocational training.
Social and Communication Skills:
- Group activities and workshops to enhance teamwork and interaction skills.
Inclusive Learning Environment:
- Small class sizes with experienced staff and resources tailored to diverse needs.
Accredited Qualifications:
- Opportunities to gain recognised qualifications that support progression.
How will you learn?
- Classroom-based academic sessions.
- Practical activities to build life and vocational skills.
- Supported learning in areas of interest (e.g. creative arts, business basics).
- Regular progress reviews to ensure students are on track.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to bring lunch or money to buy lunch. Information about any money needed for enrichment activities will be shared when required. You will need money or a Gold Card for any transport costs using public transport.
How will you be assessed?
Qualifications in maths and English could either entail End Point Assessment or a portfolio-based assessment depending on the individual student. Students will also be completing a portfolio AIM Award or Certificate in Personal Development, which includes study skills. Students will have RARPA targets to support their soft skills.
