Course Information for Students

The Next Steps Pathway is a personalised programme for young people who are ready to move on from the Pathway to Independence programme and become more involved in their community.

We will plan your programme with you to develop the skills you will need for work and in your community. You will learn and practise these skills in a range of projects. Then, as you become more confident, you might also complete work placements.

You will have completed the Pathway to Independence programme.

You should want to be involved in the community and to develop skills and confidence for work.

We will plan your programme with you.

It will include:

  • Work on your personal targets
  • English
  • Maths
  • Social skills
  • Travel training
  • A community / enterprise project
  • A work placement when you are ready

This course will be delivered on-site.

You will need a travel card or money for bus fares. You might need to provide some personal safety equipment for some activities.

If you are invited on any trips, you will be asked for a voluntary contribution. When cooking, you will require £4.00 as a contribution to your meal.

Your English, maths and practical skills will be assessed at the start of the year. Then you will plan your targets with your tutor.

You will check your progress towards your targets regularly. Your tutor will review your progress with you every half term.

When you have achieved a target, you will agree your next target with your tutor.

During the year, we will work with you to help you plan what to do next.

You might return for another year on Next Steps, or maybe move on to another programme in the College.

Or you might be ready to leave College and use your new skills in your community or at work.
