Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Electrical Installations (Diploma) is for adults aged 19+ wishing to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for a career within the electrotechnical sector.

Course Information for Students
Who is this course for?
This is a two year evening course where you will attend Derby College for two evenings a week. This Level 3 course is industry recognised and will increase your employability within the Building Services industry. It will require considerable commitment and effort to complete but offers a superior pathway to employment. It covers the advanced technical aspects of electrical installation and testing.
Entry Requirements
You should have already completed and Electrical Installations Level 2 qualification You will need GCSE grade 4 / C or above in English and Maths or be working at Functional Skills Level 2. You will also have to complete and pass a formal interview and initial assessment.
What will you learn?
The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover mandatory aspects such as:
· Scientific principles
· Inspection, testing and commissioning of electrotechnical systems and equipment
· Fault finding and diagnosis
· Electrical design practices and procedures
· Organising and overseeing electrical work activities in buildings
· Requirements for electrical installations to BS 7671
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site in the classroom & workshop with set assignments & research projects
What will you need to bring with you?
You will need to purchase various items of equipment, including safety boots for workshop activities, classroom equipment and technical regulation books. The purchase of appropriate student books and e-books is encouraged and guidance on which books to purchase will be given by subject specialists.
How will you be assessed?
Students will be assessed through a mixture of externally set exams and projects. These will bring together all the key theories and practical skills that the students learn throughout their time at college.
Where next?
This course allows for progression to the appropriate Level 4 or 5 in Professional Construction qualification.
Alternatively, and with employment in a qualifying role, progression into a formal apprenticeship in the appropriate specialist pathway could be possible.
