Course Information for Students

This course is aimed at students aged 16 years and over who want to study digital media production focusing on moving image, TV, film and audio production development. The pathway has been specifically designed for students wishing to study a single creative subject alongside work experience, tutorial and personal and professional development.

It will provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree-level study and employment in the media sector.

You will have an opportunity to explore and develop your creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

Typically, you will have at least five GCSEs graded 9-4 (A*- C), including English Language and Maths.

Alternatively you may have equivalent intermediate qualifications at Merit grade or above, along with GCSE grade 4/C in English Language and Maths.

Studying the Creative Digital Media: Moving Image and Audio Production pathway, you will take between 8 and 13 units culminating in a final major project.

Through a mixture of practical and theory-based units, you will develop your understanding of how different media institutions operate to create products that appeal to specific target audiences. The units also develop your transferable skills such as critical and contextual awareness, planning, design and research skills, and leadership skills.

Throughout the course, you will understand how digital multimedia products are used and learn how to design and create a product. You will understand, adapt and safely use appropriate and practical methods and skills for creative production. You will also solve complex problems through the application of practical, theoretical and technical understanding.

Other skills that will be developed include working in a team, communication, adaptability and evaluation. You will also have opportunities to find out from employers how the skills and knowledge you acquire are used in the workplace.

This course will be delivered on-site.

N/A

There is internal assessment, where your tutor assesses your work, which is also externally moderated.

Every unit achieved will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. Qualifications are graded using a Pass, Merit, Distinction (and referral) structure. If you don’t achieve a Pass in a unit, it will be graded as a referral.

You must get at least a Pass for every unit to be awarded the qualification.

Students should be advised that some university degree courses require them to have gained a GCSE at 4/C or above in Maths and English. Students may need to complete these qualifications to ensure they have the best possible chance to progress to higher education.

You could apply for employment in the digital media sector in job roles such as production runner, freelance crew or a media-related apprenticeship.

This course also provides a route to a higher education media-related programme such as Media Production, Media and Communications, Journalism and Media.
