Course Information for Students

Consider this course if you have completed the Level 2 programme and you wish to continue increasing your knowledge and skills. The skills you will gain, alongside working in the industry, will enhance your career progression.

This is a practical-based modular programme that will show you more advanced techniques, skills and knowledge. These will build upon the knowledge you have gained at Level 2.

You need to be highly motivated and demonstrate a very keen interest in this chosen subject. A Level 2 Floristry qualification needs to have been completed before you consider this course. Offers of a place on the course are dependent on your qualifications. You will need:

  • A minimum of three GCSEs at grade 3/4 or above, including English and Maths

You will have an interview and parents are welcome to attend. Applicants can also present any examples of their previous work and experiences which are applicable to this course.

This qualification covers the skills you will need to progress further with your learning and training, or to progress to a higher level within the floristry industry or workplace. You will study the following content:

  • Working in the floristry industry
  • Hand-tied designs
  • Funeral designs
  • Floral arrangements
  • Floral wedding designs
  • Business planning
  • Identification of cut materials
  • European floristry design principles

If you are under 19, you will also be required to study Functional English/Maths or GCSE English/Maths if you have not obtained a GCSE grade 4 in these subjects.

The course is delivered on-site at Broomfield Hall.

You will be required to supply your own:

  • Suitable tools and equipment in a tool box e.g. secateurs and scissors. (You will be advised what you require during Induction Week.)
  • Derby College Group tabard or apron
  • Writing materials, notepad, pen and folders

To achieve the qualification, candidates must successfully complete the Level 3 Diploma in Floral Practical Skills, attend all the units, and have 90% attendance overall.

You could progress to further study in floristry.
