This course is ideal for learners who are wanting to begin a journey into the dog grooming industry. It will build the skills and knowledge for working under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within a commercial salon at the College, which allows for a more realistic insight into a dog grooming career.
It is a practical course, but there is some theory throughout too.

You must have a keen interest in dog grooming and complete a remote interview.
Entry requirements include:
- Maths and English GCSE at grade D/3 and above.
- £220 kit fee paid on a successful interview.

- Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and drying dogs ready for styling
- Knowledge of how to maintain a range of salon equipment
- Basics of clipping and scissoring skills
- Maintaining cleanliness and standards in a grooming salon
- Basic canine first aid

What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to provide a few items during the course:
- Sensible footwear (closed toe shoes)
- Sensible clothing (jeans/leggings)
- Notepad and pens
- Folder
- Lunch and refreshments (food is available to purchase on-site too)
All other equipment that is needed will be provided.

How will you be assessed?
There are both practical and theoretical assessments during this course. The practical exams will be held within the College grooming salon and completed during the course. There is then a final multiple-choice online exam towards the end of the course.

Where next?
After the course we would recommend the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.
This enables you to go on to work as a professional stylist or salon manager or to run your own salon.
