Course Information for Students

You will be provided with a foundation in the broad range of skills required to work competently within the arboriculture industry. Practical skills will be developed in the workplace while theoretical background knowledge will be taught and reviewed mainly at College.

This qualification is for anyone aged 16 or over with a job or work placement as a forest worker. You don’t need any previous experience to get started.

You need one of the following:

  • Introductory Diploma in a related subject
  • Three GCSEs at grade D (3) or above

You should also have a standard of English and maths equivalent to Functional Skills Level 1.

If you are a mature learner, we may be able to take into consideration your previous experience in your chosen subject. Applicants will be interviewed, will undertake an initial assessment in English and maths, and must present an example of current work.

You must be in employment and committed to a career in the arboriculture industry. You will undergo an initial assessment before starting the programme to ensure that you are capable of achieving the outcomes and have an interest in this area of work.

This programme will enable you to develop the skills in forestry and arboriculture that employers are looking for. Pathways include forestry establishment, maintenance and harvesting, green wood trades, and arboriculture.

The apprenticeship will be delivered in the workplace and on-site at Broomfield Hall one day per week

You will need full PPE which should be provided by your employer, including safety boots, trousers and helmet with ear defence and visor, and waterproofs. You will also need writing materials.

For apprentices over the age of 19, an employer contribution is required.

Training is largely work-based with ongoing practical assessments undertaken in your workplace. You will keep a portfolio of evidence of your practical ability and theoretical understanding.

The programme enables you to develop the skills in forestry and arboriculture that employers are looking for.
