Installation of silicone-based render systems – spray render and hand applied
This two-day course is designed for those who are experienced in applying traditional rendering to an external wall and are looking to upskill in the application of silicone-based render. You will cover both hand and spray methods of application.

Who is this course for?
This course is designed for existing plasterers and renderers.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, though it is advisable to either be experienced in applying plaster and render or to hold a qualification in plastering trades.
What will you learn?
The training will include a short theory session on the machine, set-up, spray and maintenance. We will discuss backgrounds, PPE and different render systems. This will be followed by practical tasks covering:
- Using the machine: set up, spray and maintain
- Fixing beads/edgings to wall areas
- Applying render coat (monocouche) and reinforced mesh systems
- Scratch back and finish
Understanding external insulation
- Explaining systems, problems that could occur and dealing with technical issues with the machine
- Describing the system, different backgrounds and fault finding with products
Using the machine
- Spray machine set-up
- Health and safety, manual handling and mixing materials
- Spray to substrate
- Serrate and smooth application of render technique
- Cutting and fixing mesh system
- Scratch back system to finish
- Machine maintenance
How will you learn?
This is a skills-based course which will be taught within a workshop environment in the form of a practical.
Some elements that cannot be covered in a workshop setting will be done within one of our classrooms.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need clothing that is appropriate for working in construction, safety footwear, safety glasses, safety gloves and writing materials.
How will you be assessed?
Work will be monitored and assessed throughout each day and a finished product will be assessed, with feedback given. A short test will be administered to check on knowledge retention.
