Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care – Level 3

Who is this course for?
This vocational course, equivalent to 1.5 A-levels, leads to a recognised qualification for entering health and social care professions or for further training such as university courses. Combining academic study and application of theories, it includes a mandatory work placement. It forms Year 1 of a possible two-year programme which will lead to an Extended Diploma.
In Year 1, you will achieve the Foundation Diploma which is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels. This can be topped up to the full Extended Diploma in the second year.
Entry Requirements
An interview is essential and you will need one of the following:
- Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Maths and English Language
- A Merit/Distinction in a relevant Level 2 course – such as the Diploma in Health and Social Care – with GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above
Evidence of good attendance is also required. Voluntary work or work experience is desirable. You will also need to be DBS checked.

How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need practical, smart clothing and shoes for your placement. You must also cover your travel costs to your placement.
You will need to apply and pay for your DBS check.
How will you be assessed?
You will be assessed through coursework with internally set assignments. You are expected to integrate the experience you gain on placement into your assignments.
There are two exams in Year 1 and a further two in Year 2.

Further Study
This course can lead to studying for the full Extended Diploma in Year 2 which in turn can lead to degree-level study at university, with courses in subjects such as Nursing or Social Work.
