FdSc Animal Management / Equine Science, Management and Training Module – Riding and Training (Level 4)
This module teaches the basic principles of equitation on the flat and over fences. It also provides the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to train horses with a variety of methods and reflecting the industry standards recommended by the British Horse Society.

The Riding and Training Horses module teaches the basic principles of equitation on the flat and over fences. It also provides the basic knowledge, understanding and skills to train horses with a variety of methods from the ground. Students will be taught to industry standards, as recommended by the British Horse Society. The module will ensure that students have sufficient riding experience to be able to cope with future job roles.

You need experience, alongside basic knowledge and understanding, of how to ride and train a horse using a variety of movements up to BD Novice level and to train a horse over show jumps and/or cross country fences up to 0.70m.

What will you learn?
- Demonstrate riding skills up to British Dressage Novice level on the flat and riding skills over fences up to 0.75m.
- Understand the way in which horses work on the flat and over fences and demonstrate experienced knowledge of methods of improvement.
- Demonstrate lunging or long reining a trained horse from the ground for exercise.
- Show knowledge and experience of working horses from the ground for exercise and explain methods of improvement.
