Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for learners who are wanting to begin a journey into the dog grooming industry. It will build the skills and knowledge to be able to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within a commercial salon at the college. Allowing a more realistic insight into a dog grooming career.
It is a practical course, however, there is some theory throughout the course also.
Entry Requirements
You must have a keen interest in dog grooming and complete a remote interview.
Entry Requirements include:
- Maths and English grade D/3 and above.
- £220 kit fee paid on interview, if successful.

What will you learn?
You will learn a range of skills which include:
- Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and drying dogs ready for styling
- Knowledge on how to maintain a range of salon equipment
- Basics of clipping and scissoring skills
- Maintaining cleanliness and standards in a grooming salon
- Basic canine first aid
How will you learn?
On-site practical and theory learning within the dog grooming salon on Broomfield Hall campus.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to provide a few items during the course. And those are:
- Sensible footwear (closed toe shoes)
- Sensible clothing (Jeans/leggings)
- Note pad and pens
- Folder
- Lunch and refreshments (Food is available to purchase onsite too)
All other equipment that is needed will be provided.
How will you be assessed?
There is both practical and theoretical assessments during this course. The practical exams will be held within the college grooming salon and completed during the course. There is then a final multiple-choice online exam towards the end of the course that will be completed.
Where next?
After the course we would recommend the Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming.
This enables you to go onto working as a professional stylist, salon manager or run your own salon.
