Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for learners who are wanting to begin a journey into the dog grooming industry. It will build the skills and knowledge, in dog grooming, to be able to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon. The course is run within a commercial salon at the college. Allowing a more realistic insight into a dog grooming career.
It is a mostly a practical course, however, there is some theory throughout the course also.
Entry Requirements
You must have a keen interest in dog grooming and have willingness to work hard towards the course. An initial interview will be required to assess whether you have the devotion towards a dog grooming career and check competency.
There is a £220 deposit to be paid if successful on the interview, to cover kit fees.
Entry Requirements include:
- Maths and English grade D/3 and above.
What will you learn?
You will learn a range of skills which include:
- Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing
- Bathing and drying dogs ready for styling
- Knowledge on how to maintain a range of salon equipment
- Basics of clipping and scissoring skills
- Maintaining cleanliness and standards in a grooming salon
- Canine first aid
How will you learn?
There is both practical and theoretical assessments during this course. This course takes place in the Dog Grooming building at Broomfield Hall.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will be required to provide a few items during the course. And those are:
- Sensible footwear (closed toe shoes)
- Sensible clothing (Jeans/trousers)
- Note pad and pens
- Folder
- Lunch and refreshments (Food is available onsite too)
How will you be assessed?
There is both practical and theoretical assessments during this course. The practical exams will be held within the college grooming salon and completed during the course. There is then a final multiple-choice online exam towards the end of the course that will be completed.
