External Walling Installation (EWI) Maintenance
This short course is designed for trades persons involved in working on buildings containing External Walling Installation (EWI) and who may need to repair sections or parts of an EWI system.

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who works on a property that has EWI on its exterior wall and who requires the knowledge and skills to be able to repair or make good the installation when needed.
Entry Requirements
There are entry requirements for this course.
What will you learn?
Following a brief workshop induction, the course will be practical based and will cover the following:
- Situations where a repair may be needed
- Methods of making effective repairs
- Methods of fixing products to an EWI wall
- How to fix to an EWI wall – downpipes, letter boxes, new external lighting etc
- Types of repairs needed (following window/door fitting, installation of boiler flues, when attaching other structures, or general damage)
- Maintaining the thermal efficiency when making alterations to the building (repairs to insulation material)
- Patching damaged rendering
- Applying small sections of silicone-based render (repairs and patches etc) by hand
- Considerations and factors when fixing to an EWI system.
This will be a workshop/practical based course.
How will you learn?
This is a skills-based course which will be taught within a workshop environment in the form of a practical.
What will you need to bring with you?
You need clothing that is appropriate for working in construction, safety footwear, safety glasses, safety gloves, and something to write with.
How will you be assessed?
Work will be monitored and assessed throughout the day. A short test will be administered to check on knowledge retention.
