Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care – Level 2
This course enables you to gain knowledge and skills essential for a career within health and social care. You will attend a placement and have the opportunity to develop work-related skills in a health or social care environment.

Who is this course for?
You will gain a range of knowledge and skills essential to start your career within health and social care. The course requires attendance at a health or social care setting in which you will practise your knowledge and skills. This is an ideal course for students who may wish to progress to Level 3 or resit their Maths GCSE.
Entry Requirements
You will need:
- GCSE English Language at a grade 4 or above
- GCSE Maths at a grade 3 or above
- Three further GCSEs with a grade 3 / 4 profile or a Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care graded Merit/Merit.
What will you learn?
Units include:
- Human Lifespan Development
- Health and Social Care Values
- Vocational Experience in Health and Social Care
- Carrying out a Research Project in Health and Social Care
- Infection Control in Health and Social Care
- Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care
You will also develop your skills in maths to support your main study programme.
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site.
What will you need to bring with you?
You will need practical, smart clothing and shoes for attendance at your placement. You will also have to cover the travel costs to get to and from placement.
How will you be assessed?
Assessment is through examinations and course work. You will develop a portfolio of evidence that includes written assessments, presentations, displays, academic posters and practical tasks. An overall grade is given at the end of the year. The Maths GCSE involves an exam.

Further study
If you gain an overall Merit or Distinction on this course and achieve a grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths, you may be able to progress to Level 3.
