Course Information for Students

This is a free ICT course aimed at adults aged 19+.

The qualification provides essential digital skills which are needed in a wide range of situations in life, learning and work. Successful learners will be able to make appointments, order goods and services, organise payments using online platforms, conduct video calls, create, edit and save a range of documents, and troubleshoot basic problems on their device.

There are no entry requirements. However, you will be required to complete a brief assessment to ensure that the course is suitable for you.

This course consists of the following units:

  • Using devices and handling information (including how to store information)
  • Creating and editing
  • Communicating online
  • Transacting (buying) online activities
  • Being responsible, safe and legal online

This course will be delivered once a week in one of our partner community venues. Current venues to choose from are based in Sinfin and Normanton. Look out for more venues soon!

It would be advantageous to have your own electronic device for word processing such as a laptop or PC and access to the Internet so that you can continue to develop your skills at home, but this is not essential.

We also recommend bringing along a pen and paper for taking notes.

We will assess your progress throughout the course in order to support your development and you will take an assessment at the end.

What you do next is up to you:

  • Use the skills you learn in work, further study or everyday life
  • Use those skills in any future course of study that you may be considering
  • Move up to a Level 2 programme
