Pearson BTEC Level 2 in Sport Leadership
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Leading Community Activity (Diploma) develops a purposeful combination of knowledge, skills and behaviours for entering employment as a Community Activity Leader at entry level. It provides a strong foundation for achieving full occupational competence with further workplace training and development.

Who is this course for?
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of students (aged 16+) and provides progression to employment in an occupation that is recognised and demanded by employers. Furthermore, on completion of the course, you can advance to Level 3 Sport qualifications. The course is designed for people who wish to develop their coaching, teaching and leadership skills within the sector.
The qualification will:
· develop students’ ability and confidence to apply the knowledge, skills and behaviours in carrying out the relevant occupational duties and functions to meet entry level competence
· develop transferable skills and professional behaviours/attributes such as communication, organisation, reliability and inclusiveness that are essential to personal effectiveness in this occupation
· develop knowledge and understanding of best practices and core values such as collaboration, safety and security of participants and inclusivity that are important for regulatory compliance/meeting professional requirements/working safely/sustainable operations/inclusion and diversity etc in this sector
· provide opportunities for students to achieve a nationally recognised qualification to support them in taking the next step in their career journey
· align with the CIMSPA Professional Standards
· provide employers with reliable evidence of students’ attainment against the Community Activator Coach occupational standard and their readiness to enter employment in the related occupation at entry level
Entry Requirements
No prior knowledge, understanding, skills or qualifications are required before students register for this qualification.
However, a GCSE profile of 3s and 4s is preferred for enrolment on this programme.
GCSE resits for English or Maths are available on this course.
What will you learn?

Mandatory units
1 Working in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry 2 (120 Guided Learning Hours)
In this unit, students will explore how people access sport and physical activity, the ways in which participating can benefit them and the community, but also the factors that might prevent them taking part.
2 Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Activity Leader 2 (60 Guided Learning Hours)
Students will study the factors that influence participation in sport and physical activity in their local community, including the importance of positive role models and how they, as community activity leaders, might encourage behaviour change in groups and individuals.
3 Planning and Promoting Community Activities 2 (60 Guided Learning Hours)
Students will explore the different types of sport, physical activities and events, before planning and promoting their own to a local community.
4 Working as a Community Activity Leader 2 (120 Guided Learning Hours)
Students will explore strategies and processes to deliver and evaluate sport, physical activity and events in their local community, in their role as a community activity leader.
How will you learn?
The learner will follow a mixed delivery model, with classroom delivery alongside practical delivery to develop the required confidence and leadership skills to lead sessions. As the title suggests, there will be opportunity to partake in learning away from the College site and within the community, working with our partners
What will you need to bring with you?
Learners will be expected to provide their own learning equipment in the form of pens, paper, and digital devices such as iPad or laptops (there will be some access to College laptops in classrooms and from the library onsite) to support the production of notes and assessment work.
The learner is expected to wear black clothing and their ID lanyard while onsite at our Broomfield Hall campus.
Learners are required to purchase a minimum of one T shirt as uniform (DCG logo) for the practical delivery and assessment activities (learners will be provided with purchase details when they enrol on the programme).
How will you be assessed?
Internal assessments are designed to evidence entry level competence. Required methods of assessment and evidence will be described in each unit.
To pass each internally assessed unit, students must:
· achieve all the specified learning outcomes
· satisfy all the assessment criteria by providing sufficient and valid evidence for each criterion
· meet any prescribed evidence requirements for a unit – eg units may mandate practical demonstration of skills in a workplace or simulated environment
· prove that the evidence is their own
The assessments will entail a variety of types to develop skills required in the industry. Some examples are listed below:
- Written reports
- Posters/leaflets
- Presentations
- Practical deliveries
Where next?
The course is designed to provide the information required by employers for entry level employment in the sector. This qualification is endorsed by CIMPSA as developing the professional standards to enter the sector at entry level.
On completion of the programme, there will also be the opportunity to remain in education and progress to a Level 3 Sport course programme.
During the programme, the learners will be given careers advice and the opportunity to work with our careers team to look at their next steps.
