This apprenticeship equips you to work as a dental nurse, a role which complements that of other dental professionals.

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship leads to a mandatory qualification for anyone who wants to pursue a career as a dental nurse. TheDental Nursing role is a key element of the dental care professional team.
Entry Requirements
GCSE English and maths at grade 4/C
What will you learn?
You will learn how to assist dental professionals with a variety of different treatments following the General Dental Council and Care Quality Commission guidelines. You will study topics such as:
Principles of infection control
Health and Safety.
How will you learn?
You will be supported on a 1-1 basis by your assessor and in addition after being on the course for 6 months you will be required to attend college for 6 months for one day a fortnight.
What will you need to bring with you?
Stationary and a laptop if you have one.
How will you be assessed?
You will produce a portfolio of evidence and will be assessed via a variety of assessment methods including:
- Observations
- Exams
- Underpinning knowledge questions
- Professional discussions
- Products of work
- End Point Assessment- this consists of an exam, interview and observation in the workplace.
Where next?
Successful completion will lead to registration with the GDC.
You can progress onto post qualification study in areas such as radiography, sedation and oral health advise.
You could also progress onto HE to become a Hygienist or Dentist.

You do not pay for the apprenticeship but the employer will need to make a contribution.

Apprenticeship summary
This is a Level 3 Dental Nursing apprenticeship.
Are they any entry requirements for my apprentice?
The apprentice will need GCSEs at grade 4/C or above. They should be already working in a dentist environment but we can help you find the right person for the role.
What is required from the employer in the workplace?
- Support and training for the apprentice
- Support from a mentor who is vocationally qualified.
- Paid time to attend College or complete work
- Reviews to be completed in a timely fashion
- Support going through the apprenticeship gateway to the End Point Assessment

The apprentice will be required to follow GDC guidelines and principles and demonstrate the following behaviours;

- Empathy
- Interpersonal skills
- Customer service skills
- Good time management

Level 3 mandatory Dental Nursing qualification

Is there any specialist equipment required?
No, although a laptop would be beneficial.
