Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy – Level 4
The Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy builds on the knowledge gained on a Level 3 Sports Massage course by introducing the skills required to treat and correct common patterns of dysfunction and pre-diagnosed injuries.

Who is this course for?
The Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy builds on the knowledge gained on a Level 3 Sports Massage course by introducing the skills required to treat and correct common patterns of dysfunction and pre-diagnosed injuries.
All applicants should have completed a Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage and this must be evidenced prior to starting this programme.
Courses run for 18 weeks and are scheduled for the following dates:
Monday: 11/09/23 – 29/01/24
Tuesday: 6/02/24 – 2/07/24
Adult learner loans can be applied for to cover the £811 course fees.
A minimum of five candidates must be enrolled for this course to start.
Entry Requirements
You must have completed a Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage.
It is also recommended that you have:
- good customer service and communication skills
- excellent personal hygiene, appearance and professional demeanour
- English and Maths GCSE at grade C/4 or higher
What will you learn?
- Treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair
- Conducting subjective and objective physical assessments
- Providing sports massage techniques to prevent and manage injury
How will you learn?
This course will be delivered on-site. It is highly practical. You are expected to work with clients over a prolonged time period, evidencing your treatments to specific areas of the body. A significant proportion of the course should be conducted independently away from the classroom.
What will you need to bring with you?
You may wish to purchase your own massage equipment, fold-away beds and oils in order to practise. This is not, however, a requirement of the course.
This course is CIMSPA endorsed.
How will you be assessed?
This qualification will be delivered, assessed and assured in line with:
- The CNHC code of conduct, ethics and performance
- Skills for Health’s QCF assessment principles
A range of practical and knowledge-based assessments will be arranged, including vocational experience and observation of practice.
Assessments are carried out over a number of observations of your work with clients, plus additional worksheets and critical evaluation of your practice.
You will be expected to provide a client to work on for your scenario-based practical assessments.
Where next?
Students who complete this qualification will be able to gain employment and obtain insurance to work as a sports massage therapist.
They can also consider progression to the:

- Level 2 Award in Gym Instruction
- Level 2 Award in Smoking Cessation
- Level 2 Award in Mental Health Awareness
- Level 2 Award in Understanding Nutrition, Performance and Healthy Eating
