Derby College Expands Apprenticeship Support

Derby College is holding two special events as part of National Apprenticeship Week 2016 which are designed to support young people into apprenticeships and the world of work.

An apprenticeship evening and jobs fair will be held at the Roundhouse in Pride Park on Tuesday March 15 between 5.30pm and 8pm. This is the opportunity for young people to register with the apprenticeship website. Information will be available about the current apprenticeship vacancies and there will be the opportunity to meet some of the employers who are recruiting staff.

The information evening is aimed at young people who are considering apprenticeships in the near future and want to consider the options available to them.
Those who have a more clear idea of their future plans are being invited to the first of the College's new 'Apprenticeship Ready' sessions which will be held at the Johnson Building in Locomotive Way on Saturday March 12 between 10am and 2.30pm.

The College's apprenticeship team will help young people with online applications, interview techniques, carry out initial assessments and offer careers advice.
Derby College Business Development Director April Hayhurst said: "We are holding monthly sessions throughout the spring and summer to support young people either who are looking for an apprenticeship position immediately or who are planning ahead for after their examinations this summer. "Everyone who attends and completes the various stages of the sessions and the initial assessment screening will receive a College certificate and their details circulated to employers who are looking to recruit. "The sessions also help us to identify if there are any gaps such as work experience or additional training required to increase the young person's chances of progressing into an apprenticeship. She continued: "For young people, apprenticeships are the opportunity to earn while they learn – combining valuable work experience with nationally recognised qualifications. "And businesses benefit from harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of young people, teaching them the skills they need to grow their business and ensuring that they do not face future skills gaps with an ageing workforce. "As part of our support to businesses – we provide a recruitment service to help them find the young people who will benefit their organisations and pre-apprenticeship training programmes to support young people with the skills they need to be successful in their search for jobs."
