This is a nationally recognised qualification for trainee dental nurses working in a dental practice. The course enables dental nurses to gain the qualifications needed to fulfil the General Dental Council requirements for registration.
You must be working in paid employment as a dental nurse.
For the Diploma, you will need to complete ten sector-specific units to achieve the qualification. They include some of the following subjects:
You will attend class sessions to fulfil the knowledge evidence requirements of the Diploma. Peripatetic assessment will be conducted by qualified experienced assessors in the workplace at times to suit you and your employer. These assessments will include observations of work practices and assessing your portfolio of work.
Once trained, dental nurses can take career pathways to become dental therapists and hygienists or to take up roles in areas such as oral health promotion, dental practice management, nursing, radiography and conscious sedation.
