Course Summary

Delivered at our Johnson Building Fitness Centre, these workshops will help you focus on key elements of your fitness and provide you with expert technical guidance for the effective delivery of fitness.

The workshops are relevant for both experienced and new fitness instructors or for those wanting to improve their own personal exercise routines.

Our Fitness Centre is open from 7.30am-9.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am-1.00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Entry requirements

You will need to have received an induction covering the use of the equipment. This is free if you become a gym member or you will be charged  £5 as part of your first fitness class.

As part of the induction, you will need to complete a par-q health screening form.

Classes are open to any age, sex, ability or fitness level.

  • Principles of Strength and Conditioning
  • Stretching and Active Recovery
  • Planning Dynamic Warm-Ups
  • Physical Assessments

How will I be assessed?

There are no formal assessments as part of the workshops.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

Drinks, supplements and energy bars are available should you wish to purchase them. You will need to be wearing clothing suitable for activity. No hats, outdoor shoes or jewellery should be worn.

Former sports student Ellie prepares for coaching trip to Australia

Sports coach Ellie Wheeldon-Jones is planning to go to Australia to teach swimming after successfully completing a foundation degree course in sports coaching at Derby College. Ellie, who has always been sporty, would like to travel and take a break from studying before deciding whether or not to take a third-year top up degree course. Like her sister Sophie, who is now a personal trainer, and her boyfriend Mykylo, a semi-professional cricketer, Ellie initially took the BTEC sports sciences course at Derby College after leaving school following GCSEs.She then went on to take her foundation degree at Broomfield Hall and is currently working as a children's swimming coach as well as teaching tampolining to adults.

Ellie said: "One of the best things about the foundation degree course was the amount of one-to-one attention you receive. Our groups were small so the lecturers had more time to dedicate to you. It was hard work but I enjoyed it and felt very comfortable at Broomfield."
Ellie has participated in many sports including gymnastics, athletics and running during and since her schooldays. She has also swum at county level.
