The Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon is the first qualification on the triathlon coaching ladder. The qualification is designed to provide learners aged 16 and over with an introduction to the practical and theoretical aspects of coaching triathlon. The foundation level of knowledge recognised in this qualification will enable them to develop an understanding of the safe, ethical and effective coaching of the sport.

You should have a keen interest in coaching and an understanding of triathlon. You need to be at least 16 years old and have good communication skills.
You should be able to demonstrate a basic personal ability to perform the skills and techniques involved in the sport.
The course will cover the following elements:
You will be assessed through the completion of coaching sessions, including their planning, delivery and evaluation.
You will be supplied with course handbooks, coaching notes and materials. You are expected to have suitable kit for coaching.
The Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon is the first rung on the coaching ladder. Those who complete this award will be able to aid the delivery of triathlon coaching sessions to adults and children.

Sports enthusiast Beth Wood is weighing up study options and a potential career thanks to her college course and work placement.The seventeen-year-old Level 3 Sports Coaching and Development student has completed the first year of her course with the offer of an apprenticeship.On work experience, as part of the course, she so impressed bosses at children' coaching company First Grade Sports that they first gave her a job teaching children in holidays and half terms.Now they have now gone one step further and offered an apprenticeship.Beth is also considering whether to go on to higher education at Derby College or whether to experience university life.
She said: "Without the college I wouldn't have got the chance of my work experience, or my job, or the offer an apprenticeship. My work experience helped me to understand how to teach different ages and abilities. It also helped improve my confidence, helping me feel comfortable in my own ability and knowledge."
