Course Summary

The Award in Door Supervision is aimed at learners who wish to work as door supervisors and who require a qualification in order to apply for a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence.

This qualification will develop your knowledge and understanding of the role of the door supervisor within the private security industry.

Courses are planned to run in:

Courses can be delivered at our Broomfield Hall or Johnson Building campuses.

Entry requirements

You must be over 18, have good communication and literacy skills and be able to complete an online assessment independently without support. You must also be physically capable of completing physical intervention training.

IMPORTANT: It is essential that you can provide the appropriate identification in order to enrol on this course. You must present sufficient forms of identification at enrolment.  This may include photo identification, current utility bills or your birth certificate. You will also need to supply two passport photos at enrolment. You should enrol using your full name and apply for SIA licences with your full name to avoid identification errors. For further clarification, please contact us.

Course Content

The course covers:

  • How to recognise, defuse and resolve conflict situations
  • Physical intervention skills
  • Health and safety procedures
  • Laws relating to the private security industry
  • Effective communication skills

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a practical assessment of physical intervention techniques and online multiple choice exams.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

There are no additional costs although you may wish to apply for your SIA licence in order to work in the security industry. You will be charged to resit if you fail to attend on your assessment date or fail your exam at the first sitting. Each re-sit will be charged at £50.

As part of the course, you should have suitable clothing to carry out practical activities, including indoor trainers and sports kits.

What can I do after this course?

Having completed the Award in Door Supervision, you can apply for your SIA licence for employment in the security sector.  Further training is also available at Derby College such as the:

  • Award for Working as a Security Guard
  • Award in Working as a CCTV Operator
  • Foundation Degree in Criminal Justice (Offender Management)
