Course Summary

The Derby County Community Trust Education and Football programme gives aspiring young footballers the opportunity to develop their 11-a-side football skills while studying Level 3 academic qualifications in Sport to enhance their career prospects.

The College’s partnership with the award-winning DCCT enables students to benefit from the expertise of highly qualified and respected coaches, which enhances the football-focussed curriculum.

Training sessions and competitive fixtures are carried out alongside your main programme of study. Your academic performance will impact your access to matches and training, so you must maintain high levels of attendance and keep up to date with your assessments.

The course duration is set in line with VISA conditions, with a minimum of six months of study required.

Entry requirements

Applications are welcomed from individuals who regularly participate in football and who show a desire and willingness to develop their sporting performance.

Entry to the Level 3 Sport programme requires candidates to have an equivalent minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*- C) grades (including English and Maths).

Pre-reading around the subject areas identified below is recommended.

If you have any questions regarding international VISA applications, please contact Oliver.Stonier@derby-college.ac.uk

Katy Morten

Ahead of the game in a sporting career

Ever since school, Katy Morten had set her heart on becoming a personal trainer.

By the age of just 21, she had already achieved her career goal – thanks to a sport apprenticeship programme run by Derbyshire Dales District Council in partnership with Derby College.

Having secured a full-time job as an instructor at Bakewell Swimming Pool, Katy particularly enjoys helping people to reach their goals – whether it be weight loss or training for a particular sporting event.

I knew I could get nationally recognised qualifications more quickly on an apprenticeship – and having lots of work experience in the industry under my belt would stand me in good stead when looking for employment. Plus, who could argue with being paid to learn?

There’s a real feel-good factor to my job – just knowing you have helped someone improve their lifestyle and become happier with themselves.
