Course Summary

The Intermediate Apprenticeship takes your knowledge, understanding and skills to the next level. You will be equipped with the abilities and confidence to work on your own initiative and will be well prepared for supervisory roles in the health sector.

Entry requirements

The apprenticeship is aimed at learners aged 16 and over who are working in healthcare settings such as hospitals, GP practices, medical centres and nursing homes. You need to be working in a role such as healthcare worker.

Course Content

The apprenticeship framework consists of:
  • The Level 2 Diploma in a chosen health pathway –  Healthcare Support Services
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 2 or above
  • The Level 2 Extended Award in Workskills for Effective Learning and Employment. This will deliver the Employment Rights and Responsibilities and the Personal Learning and Thinking Skills requirements of the apprenticeship.

How will I be assessed?

You will attend fortnightly class sessions with the tutor to fulfil the knowledge evidence requirements of the apprenticeship.  You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in the workplace to action plan your progress, observe your practice and assess your portfolio of work.

Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required?

Your employer will need to provide you with any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required legally and to help you to undertake your role safely.

What can I do after this course?

Further study
Upon completion of the programme, you can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship or the Level 3 Diploma in Health.

You can advance your career in roles such as healthcare worker, nurse or midwife.
